'Loving Parent Guidebook' Meeting

Your Wellbeing journey CIC is now running a secular ACA-style meeting, once per month, on the third Tuesday of the month. In this meeting we use The Loving Parent Guidebook (see below). ACA is a 12-step program helping those recovering from the effects of growing up in a dysfunctional family. However, in our meeting we do not focus on the steps or other aspects of ACA beyond The Loving Parent Guidebook.

Please contact us if you are interested in attending this or any of our other free peer-support meetings. (This is a closed meeting and all who participate have a attended a screening chat.)

ACA - secular versions

ACA stands for Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families. It is a 12-step, faith based program. However, there are secular versions of it available. Please see the We Agnostics ACA website for one such approach. Originally intended for the adult children of alcoholics, ACA was extended to include any adult who experienced any kind of family dysfunction during childhood. For example, adult children of a parent who was abusive, a narcissist, or an addict of any kind, are welcome.

The Loving Parent Guidebook

Our meeting focuses on the ACA book The Loving Parent Guidebook, which is subtitled 'The solution is to become your own loving parent'. This book lends itself to a secular meeting as it does not refer to 'God' in the main body of the text. Instead, it refers to a 'higher power', This phrase may be taken to mean almost anything you wish, such as your better self, something greater than yourself, your connection to others, a spiritual sense of the universe or nature,  God... the list goes on.
